Cloudflare WARP is a free and paid VPN and DNS service that routes traffic through Cloudflare's network for faster, more private browsing.

What is Cloudflare WARP?

Cloudflare WARP launched in 2019 as a consumer-facing product built on top of the WireGuard protocol, offering what Cloudflare described as a VPN that makes your internet faster and more private without the complexity of traditional VPN configuration. The free tier routes traffic through Cloudflare's network to the nearest data center, improving routing efficiency and providing DNS-layer privacy through 1.1.1.1 while explicitly not making the user appear to be in a different country — distinguishing it from the privacy-via-geography VPN model. WARP+ is the paid tier that adds Cloudflare's Argo Smart Routing for further performance improvements.

WARP for Teams — now part of Cloudflare One, the company's Zero Trust platform — extends WARP's technology to enterprise use cases. Rather than routing personal browsing traffic, WARP for Teams creates an encrypted tunnel from employee devices to Cloudflare's network, where access policies, DNS filtering through Gateway, and application-level access controls through Access are applied. This positions it as an alternative to traditional VPN for the zero-trust access model. Because WARP relies on Cloudflare's global anycast network, its performance and reliability are directly tied to the health of Cloudflare's infrastructure — the same network that serves Cloudflare's CDN and DDoS protection products.

When Cloudflare WARP has problems, the client app shows a characteristic failure — the toggle that normally shows "Connected" switches to a reconnecting animation that loops without completing. DNS resolution may start failing for domains that 1.1.1.1 handles through WARP's tunnel. Split tunneling configurations may behave unexpectedly during partial degradation, causing some traffic to bypass the tunnel while other traffic routes correctly. WARP for Teams users in enterprise environments may find access to corporate applications through Cloudflare Access suddenly failing even though the applications themselves are healthy, because the authentication gateway is unreachable.

Outage.gg tracks Cloudflare WARP service status using community reports from personal and business users across all supported platforms. If WARP is not connecting, DNS is failing, or enterprise access is broken, the live status page shows current impact from the WARP user community.
