Cox Mobile
Cox Mobile is a wireless service from Cox Communications offering flexible data plans that run on Verizon's nationwide network.
What is Cox Mobile?
Cox Mobile launched in 2022 as Cox Communications' entry into wireless, following the cable industry playbook of bundling mobile service with existing broadband subscribers to reduce churn and add revenue per household. Like Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile, Cox Mobile operates as an MVNO on Verizon's network, giving it national coverage from launch without building radio access network infrastructure. The service is offered exclusively to Cox Internet customers in the markets Cox's cable plant serves, primarily across the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest United States.
Cox Mobile's platform architecture shares the structure common to cable MVNO products: Verizon handles the radio access network and core voice and data services, while Cox manages account creation, billing, plan management, and customer-facing app features through its own systems. The MyCox app, which predates Cox Mobile and handles cable TV and internet account management, was extended to include mobile line management when the wireless product launched. Wi-Fi offload to Cox's hotspot network operates similarly to Xfinity and Spectrum's hotspot offload features.
When Cox Mobile has service problems, they manifest differently depending on the failure layer. Verizon-network events cause call and data failures affecting Cox Mobile customers alongside other Verizon MVNOs. Cox-specific platform failures affect account management in the MyCox app — data usage tracking showing stale or incorrect figures, billing statement failures, and plan change requests that fail to process. Number portability transfers, initiated when a customer brings an existing number to Cox Mobile, can hang when Cox's provisioning backend has connectivity problems with the number portability administration centre.
Outage.gg monitors Cox Mobile service status through community reports. If mobile service is down, the app is failing, or account management is not working, the live status page shows current impact.
