DPDgroup is one of Europe's largest parcel delivery networks, connecting businesses and consumers across more than 230 countries and territories. Owned by Geopost, a subsidiary of France's La Poste, DPD operates with a federated structure — national subsidiaries like DPD UK, DPD Germany, and DPD Poland maintain local operations while sharing a common technology backbone called Predict. That predictive delivery system, which sends recipients a one-hour delivery window by SMS or push notification, has become DPD's most recognisable differentiator and is deeply dependent on reliable real-time tracking data flowing through the network.

Merchants integrate with DPD through the MyDPD Business portal or via API, creating shipments, booking collections, and receiving tracking webhooks. The label includes a DPD barcode that drives every subsequent scan event — from depot acceptance and sortation to the delivery driver's handheld scanner at the doorstep. Predict notifications trigger automatically when a driver loads the parcel onto their van, using route optimisation data to calculate the delivery window. The MyDPD app lets recipients reschedule deliveries, nominate safe places, or redirect parcels to a Pickup parcel shop without speaking to anyone.

When DPD's systems are under stress, the Predict experience is usually the first thing to break. Recipients stop receiving their one-hour window notifications because the trigger that fires when a driver loads a van fails to send. Tracking pages show the last depot scan but no further movement, leaving customers uncertain whether a delivery attempt is imminent or hours away. The MyDPD portal may fail to load shipment history, and API webhooks stop firing — leaving merchants' order management systems with stale status data. Depot-level system failures can also prevent drivers from loading their manifests, potentially causing physical delivery delays rather than just visibility gaps.
