Food Delivery
Freshly
Freshly ships fully cooked, nutritionist-designed single-serve meals that heat in minutes, aimed at busy adults across the US.
What is Freshly?
Freshly launched in 2012 with a different take on the meal delivery space: rather than shipping raw ingredients and recipes, Freshly shipped fully prepared, nutritionist-formulated meals that customers could heat in the microwave in about three minutes. The appeal to busy households without time to cook from scratch — but wanting something nutritionally better than fast food — built a loyal subscriber base. Nestlé acquired Freshly in 2020, integrating the brand into its portfolio of nutrition-adjacent businesses.
Freshly's subscription model relies on weekly meal selection from a rotating menu, delivery logistics coordination with cold-pack and refrigerated shipping, and a recurring billing cycle. The platform's meal selection experience — browsing available meals, reading nutritional information, and building a weekly order — is the primary customer engagement touch point outside of the physical meal delivery itself. The ability to skip weeks, pause subscriptions, and modify delivery schedules without penalty is a key part of the value proposition that influences whether subscribers stay.
When Freshly has platform problems, the meal selection workflow and subscription management tools are the most visible failure points. Customers who cannot load the weekly menu selection page before the cutoff time have their meals auto-selected — or receive an unwanted delivery of whatever defaults were set. Skip week failures result in deliveries customers did not want and charges they did not anticipate. Address change failures, where a customer tries to update their delivery location and the change does not save, can route a box to an old address. Account portal failures prevent customers from accessing order history and nutritional tracking.
Outage.gg tracks Freshly platform status through community reports from subscribers. If the meal selection portal is down, subscription changes are not saving, or the app is not working, the live status page shows current impact.
