JumpCloud is a cloud directory platform letting IT teams manage identities, devices, and app access from one console, replacing on-premises Active Directory.

What is JumpCloud?

JumpCloud built its product around a premise that has become increasingly relevant as workforces fragment across cloud services and device types: the traditional on-premises Active Directory is not designed for a world where employees use Macs, Linux workstations, Google Workspace, and dozens of SaaS tools. Founded in 2012, JumpCloud offers a cloud-based directory platform that handles device management for Windows, macOS, and Linux machines; identity and single sign-on for web applications; LDAP and RADIUS services; and zero-trust network access — all from a unified admin console. It has become a popular choice for SMBs and mid-market companies that want enterprise-grade identity management without deploying on-premises infrastructure.

JumpCloud's architecture is cloud-native and multi-tenant. The JumpCloud agent installed on managed devices maintains a persistent connection to JumpCloud's cloud infrastructure for policy enforcement, patch management, and identity binding. SSO federates through SAML 2.0 and OIDC. RADIUS authentication for Wi-Fi is proxied through JumpCloud's cloud service. LDAP is provided as a cloud-hosted service that devices and applications query remotely. Because JumpCloud sits in the authentication and device management critical path, its availability directly affects the ability of employees to log in to machines, access SaaS apps, and connect to company networks.

When JumpCloud experiences an outage, the effects across an organization can be sweeping. Employees cannot log in to managed devices if the JumpCloud agent cannot complete authentication checks. SSO logins to connected SaaS applications fail with SAML errors. Wi-Fi access controlled via JumpCloud RADIUS refuses connections. Admin console access is unavailable, preventing IT staff from making policy changes or provisioning new users during the incident. Device commands like password resets or lock initiated from the admin console are queued but not delivered. For fully JumpCloud-dependent organizations, a wide-scope outage can effectively halt operations.

Outage.gg tracks JumpCloud platform availability using reports from IT administrators and end users. If device login is failing, SSO is broken, or the admin console is unreachable, the live status page provides real-time community reports.
