Lambda Cloud's instance types are almost exclusively GPU-centric, reflecting the company's specialisation — multi-GPU configurations with 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 H100 or A100 GPUs cater to workloads that range from single-GPU fine-tuning experiments to large-scale distributed training. The Lambda Cloud console and API manage instance lifecycle, with filesystem persistence provided through Lambda's distributed file system that attaches to instances automatically. SSH access is the primary interface for most users, with Jupyter environments available through the console for users who prefer a browser-based interface. The API allows programmatic instance management for automated workflows.

Lambda Cloud service disruptions primarily manifest as capacity and provisioning failures given the constrained GPU supply environment. H100 instance availability drops to zero in specific configurations frequently, returning capacity unavailable responses rather than API errors — a supply constraint rather than an infrastructure failure, but operationally identical from the customer's perspective. Instance creation API calls time out during control plane degradation, leaving provisioning automation stuck in retry loops. The Lambda distributed file system has exhibited I/O degradation during high-utilisation periods, causing model checkpoint writes to slow significantly and occasionally fail mid-write — a serious problem for long training runs where a failed checkpoint means losing hours of compute progress. Instance networking failures within Lambda's data centre fabric cause SSH connectivity drops for active instances.
