Nextiva is a cloud communications platform providing VoIP phone service, video meetings, and CRM tools for small and mid-sized businesses.

What is Nextiva?

Nextiva was founded in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2008 with a focus on bringing enterprise-grade VoIP phone service to small and medium-sized businesses at a price point those businesses could actually afford. The company built its own infrastructure rather than reselling a third-party platform, which became a meaningful differentiator as cloud communications consolidated around a handful of providers. Nextiva has since expanded from core VoIP into a broader business communications platform it calls the NextOS, incorporating CRM features, live chat, analytics, and video meetings alongside the core phone system.

Nextiva's infrastructure handles voice traffic — which is time-sensitive in ways that most internet traffic is not — alongside the administrative layer of the phone system: call routing rules, IVR menus, voicemail, call recording, and the analytics dashboard that shows call volume, hold times, and agent performance. VoIP quality depends on network path quality between the user's location and Nextiva's infrastructure, but it also depends on Nextiva's own data center health. The Nextiva App on desktop and mobile, which provides softphone capability alongside the physical desk phone option, adds a separate client-side dependency that can fail independently of physical phone hardware.

When Nextiva has problems, business phone systems experience disruption that directly affects customer-facing operations. Inbound calls may fail to connect, going directly to voicemail or generating a busy signal even when agents are available. Outbound calling from the Nextiva App may fail entirely, leaving users with a dial tone that goes nowhere. The IVR system may behave incorrectly, routing callers to wrong destinations or failing to recognize DTMF input. Call recording may stop capturing sessions without any visible indication in the admin portal. The dashboard showing real-time call queue status may fail to refresh, leaving supervisors unable to monitor agent activity during service disruption.

Outage.gg tracks Nextiva service status using community reports from business customers and phone system administrators. If calls are not connecting, the app is down, or the admin portal is inaccessible, the live status page shows current impact from across the Nextiva customer base.
