SMITE 2 is the rebuilt sequel to Hi-Rez's mythology MOBA, launched in Unreal Engine 5 with overhauled visuals, reworked mechanics, and a new progression system.

What is SMITE 2?

SMITE 2 is Hi-Rez Studios' full sequel to the original SMITE, built on Unreal Engine 5 and designed to address the technical limitations that had accumulated in the original game over a decade. The original SMITE ran in Unreal Engine 3, and while Hi-Rez patched and expanded it extensively, certain systems — visual fidelity, physics, and the networking model — had fundamental ceilings that could only be addressed with a ground-up rebuild. SMITE 2 launched in Early Access in 2024, carrying over a subset of the original's god roster while establishing its own new progression system, battle pass economy, and esports pipeline independent of the original SMITE's Worlds circuit.

SMITE 2 uses Hi-Rez's online infrastructure for matchmaking, player account management, and the cross-progression system that links SMITE 2 accounts to legacy SMITE progress for players who qualify for the Legacy Gems transfer. The Ranked Conquest and Ranked Joust modes operate on dedicated matchmaking queues with a separate ranked tier system. The Hi-Rez account — shared with the original SMITE, Paladins, and other Hi-Rez titles — is the authentication layer, meaning a Hi-Rez account backend incident affects SMITE 2 simultaneously with the rest of the Hi-Rez portfolio. The Battle Pass store and gem purchase system run through the Hi-Rez store infrastructure.

SMITE 2 server problems show up in predictable patterns during Early Access. The matchmaking queue fills but never transitions to champion select, eventually timing out and returning players to the main menu. Champions already in a ranked game get disconnected mid-match during server instability, and the reconnect system either fails to re-establish the session or connects too late to affect the match outcome, with the loss credited regardless. Hi-Rez account login failures lock players out before reaching the SMITE 2 client at all, showing a "Failed to connect to Hi-Rez services" error at the game launcher. Legacy Gems transfers from the original SMITE to SMITE 2 fail during account backend incidents, leaving players with pending transfer balances that require support resolution.

Outage.gg tracks SMITE 2 server status using real-time community reports from PC and console players. If SMITE 2 servers are down, matchmaking is not working, or Hi-Rez account login is failing, the live status page shows current player-reported impact.
