SMITE is Hi-Rez's third-person mythology-themed MOBA where players control gods from Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and other pantheons in team-based arena battles.

What is Smite?

Is Smite down? SMITE is a third-person mythological MOBA developed by Titan Forge Games (a division of Hi-Rez Studios), released in March 2014. Unlike traditional top-down MOBAs such as League of Legends or Dota 2, SMITE is played from an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective, making it feel more like an action game than a strategy game. Players control gods, goddesses, and mythological figures from cultures including Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Chinese, Roman, and dozens more, competing in 5v5 arena and conquest matches.

SMITE built a loyal player base drawn to its unique perspective and its deep roster of mythological characters, growing to tens of millions of registered accounts. Hi-Rez announced SMITE 2 — a full Unreal Engine 5 rebuild — in 2023, running it in parallel with the original game through a conversion programme that transferred original SMITE cosmetic purchases to SMITE 2. This parallel development strategy creates an unusual dual-service situation where both games share Hi-Rez's infrastructure simultaneously.

SMITE server issues typically present as matchmaking queues that never complete, players being unable to reconnect to matches after crashes, god unlock progress and gem purchases failing to reflect correctly, or authentication failures through Hi-Rez's account system. Cross-platform play and progression across multiple Hi-Rez titles adds additional complexity to authentication troubleshooting.

If SMITE is down, Outage.gg tracks SMITE server status and outage history in real time. If SMITE is down or matchmaking is broken, visit the live status page for community reports and subscribe for an instant notification when service is restored.
