SoFi Invest
SoFi Invest is the brokerage arm of SoFi, offering commission-free stock, ETF, and crypto trading alongside automated investing through SoFi robo-portfolios.
What is SoFi Invest?
SoFi started as a student loan refinancing company in 2011 before expanding into personal loans, mortgages, and eventually a full suite of financial products that turned it into a one-stop financial platform. The Invest product, launched in 2018, brought commission-free stock and ETF trading to SoFi's existing member base alongside cryptocurrency trading, automated investing (robo-advisor), and fractional shares. SoFi's thesis was that members who started with one product — a loan, a savings account — would gradually consolidate more of their financial life onto the platform.
SoFi Invest operates through SoFi Securities LLC, a FINRA-registered broker-dealer, with trading execution handled through third-party clearing relationships. The mobile app is the primary interface for most retail investors, handling market and limit order placement, portfolio monitoring, dividend reinvestment settings, and account funding. SoFi's banking products (checking, savings) and investment accounts are presented in a unified app, which means a platform-wide authentication failure simultaneously locks users out of trading and banking functions.
When SoFi Invest has problems, the consequences range from inconvenient to financially significant depending on market conditions. Order placement failures during volatile market sessions mean investors cannot execute trades at intended prices. Portfolio value updates may stall, showing stale prices that do not reflect current market conditions. Account funding — moving money from the SoFi Money account to invest — can fail or process with unexpected delays. Crypto trading, which operates on a different backend than equities, has its own independent failure modes including wallet access issues and price feed delays.
Outage.gg tracks SoFi Invest and SoFi platform status using real-time community reports from members. If trading is not working, the app is not loading, or account funding is failing, the live status page shows current impact from the SoFi community.
